Arbor Day Celebration
Date: 4/16/2008
Join us from 1-4 pm on Arbor Day to celebrate trees and the urban forest! Special guest speakers from the City of Monona and Johnson Tree Care will help youth and adults plant and mulch live trees on ALNC's property. We'll explore the inner workings of trees, learn how trees help cities and towns stay cool and keep waterways clean and meet some "alien" invaders that can harm urban trees. Join us for an action-packed afternoon devoted to our leafy neighbors! This program is sponsored by an Urban Forestry Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. ALNC Members & Non-Members: FREE. Registration is required. Call 608-221-3038 or visit www.naturenet.com/alnc to register.
Flustered Mustard Festival and UFO Pulling Party
Date: 4/26/2008
Search and destroy UFO's (Unwanted Flowering Objects) in the forest during this fun-filled festival event! Families and youth groups can sign up for the UFO Pulling Party contest, where teams compete for prizes on who can pull and bag the most invasive species. Never seen a UFO before? We'll teach you how to spot these alien invaders of the forest. For those without a competitive streak, you can visit activity stations at your own pace to "tug-an-olive," go on a guided hike, make a craft to take home or sample garlic mustard "pesto." In honor of Earth Day, join us to lend a helping hand to the forests of Wisconsin.
FREE. No registration required unless your team is entering the UFO Pulling Party contest. To register your team for the UFO Pulling Party contest, call 608-221-4038.
