About Us
The University of Wisconsin Health Promotion Project and Community Action Coalition for South Central Wisconsin, Inc. (CAC), in partnership with the Americorps VISTA program, played a vital role in forming the Network. We are grateful for their support!
Mission:
The Community Food and Garden Network (CFGN) is a group of peers whose mission is to strengthen community through food and gardening partnerships that include youth, seniors, and people with special needs where they live, learn, work and play.
Values:
- Develop and support training, outreach, and opportunities to share experiences and resources
- Assist gardeners to achieve their healthy living and gardening goals in educational, therapeutic, and community settings
- Enhance the ability of community members to enjoy healthy and affordable foods
- Promote policies helpful to these efforts
Accomplishments:
- Gardeners with disabilities are now gardening at numerous raised bed garden sites around Madison
- Coordinated the active participation of volunteers
- Created an Enabling Garden Committee to oversee the raised bed project
- Connected various area agencies with volunteers, information, and resources
- Hosted an Accessible Garden Conference to highlight Madison area gardens
- Organized a teacher workshop that focused on School Gardens and Environmental Education
