About Us

The U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is a non-profit, volunteer organization of 35,000 dedicated men and women who help support the non-law enforcement missions of the U. S. Coast Guard. Auxiliarists concentrate their efforts on the recreational boating safety mission of the Coast Guard, through Boater Education Courses and Vessel Safety Checks. Qualified Auxiliary boat crewmen also take part in safety patrols on local waterways, assisting boaters in distress and local law enforcement and public safety agencies with search and rescue activities.

Qualified Auxiliarists also assist the Coast Guard as radio watchstanders and fishing vessel inspectors, and monitor aids to navigation. And with the added pressures on the Coast Guard since September 11, 2001, the Auxiliary's role had broadened even further to assist in various aspects involving Homeland Security.

The efforts of these Auxiliary volunteers allow the men and women of the Coast Guard to focus more of their attention on the many and varied non-recreational boating missions of the Coast Guard, thus maximizing the tax-payer dollars earmarked for Coast Guard roles and responsibilities.

Flotilla 9-10 of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary has a membership of approximately 25 volunteers, and is headquartered in the Madison area. It is a part of Division 9, which extends from approximately Reedsburg to the Wisconsin Dells on the north, to the Illinois border on the south. Flotilla 9-10 meets in Maple Bluff Village Hall on the fourth Tuesday of every month, 7 PM. Feel welcome to attend.
