Cranes on the Prairie: Interpretive Hike
Work day at John Muir Park
How to get there: From the intersection of State Highway 22 and County Highway F south of Montello, go south on F 7.6 miles to the park entrance.
Frog Hike and Teacher Training SAVE THE DATE The teacher workshop will take place from 3:00-6:00 at the Westfield High School Library and the live frog family presentation and frog hike will be from 7:30 to 9:30. The family presentation will begin at the Westfield High School library and than transition to an outdoor natural area. Rubber boots,liquids, flashlights or head lamps, bug spray, change of clothes for young kids, layers depending on the weather. Appropriate and great fun for kids and adults of all ages. Ice Age Trail Hike, Marquette Segment with WI Go Hiking Club Meet at the parking lot at the North end of Agency House Rd in Portage between 10:15 and 10:30 am. Directions: From the intersection of Hwy 22 and 33 (North of Pardeeville, West of Portage), head West on 33 towards Portage. Just after the Portage Canal, turn right (North) on East Albert Street then quickly turn right (N.E.) on Agency House road. Trailhead parking is at the North end of Agency House Road. Bring lunch and water. Waterproof boots are recommended - just in case. Great walk for birding. 8-10 miles/Rating 3.0

Triple Interpretive Hikes in honor of National Trails Day at John Muir Park The Park is a listed site in the new Great Wisconsin Birding and Natural Trails booklet. There are three hikes scheduled during the day; participate in one, two, or all three: 9:00 a.m. - Hike Observatory Hill, a boyhood haunt of John Muir lead by Cathy Franks and Charlie Church of the Prairie Enthusiasts. 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. - Hike John Muir Park State Natural Area lead by Mark Martin DNR and Sue Foote Martin, Bureau of Endangered Wildlife and Coordinator of the Great Wisconsin Birding and Nature Trail project. 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. - Lunch. 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. - Hike the Fox River Refuge led by Sadie O'Dell of the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
