VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Give Blood
The Badger Chapter works with the local American Red Cross Blood Services Badger-Hawkeye region to help collect lifesaving blood donations from area donors and distribute them to hospital patients throughout the region. Residents of the Badger Chapter area voluntarily donate more than 55,000 units of blood each year at various permanent and mobile donation locations to help save lives in nearby hospitals and clinics.

For more information about blood donations, blood drives in your area, to make blood donor appointments, ask medical questions, general questions about blood services, or other local activities of the Badger-Hawkeye Blood Region call
1-800-GIVE-LIFE.

Help keep military families in touch
Mature volunteers are needed to assist with emergency communications between local families and their loved ones serving in the U.S. Armed Forces around the world. Volunteer opportunities are available for all hours, at home or in the office. Training is provided.

Help victims of major disasters
Additional trained volunteers are needed to respond when floods, tornadoes and large disasters strike. Volunteer caseworkers interview victims and provide financial aid to help people rebuild their lives. Licensed nurses and mental health professionals are needed, along with volunteers to manage shelters, prepare meals, maintain communications, and help communities recover. Volunteers must work well with people in emergency situations.

Join the Disaster Action Team (DAT)
Trained DAT volunteers are on-call around the clock to assist people at the scene of local fires and other disasters. Volunteers meet needs for shelter, food, clothing, and provide other Red Cross services for disaster victims. DAT volunteers must enjoy helping people from various economic and ethnic backgrounds. They must also be flexible due to the short notice of disaster assignments.

Make the Red Cross work
At local Red Cross offices, volunteers perform a variety of important tasks, including: data entry, filing, telephone work and helping with mail. This is a great way for volunteers to maintain or brush-up on administrative skills.

Teach people to save lives
Red Cross CPR, First Aid and Water Safety Instructors give people the skills to help others during life-threatening emergencies. Trained HIV/AIDS educators help stop an epidemic. Volunteer instructors work with youth by teaching Babysitting Training, Basic Aid Training (BAT), and First Aid for Children Today (FACT). Volunteers must teach at least three times a year, and some positions may require additional training beyond the instructor courses.
