Program Services
Employment The mission of our employment program is to provide unskilled, low and moderate-income families the job skills and abilities to obtain and retain employment, and achieve economic self-sufficiency and independent living in the fast changing economic times. KSI (Key States Initiative) The KSI program helps Southeast Asian and other refugee welfare recipients remove barriers to employment and stay off public assistance. This program is for refugees or asylees only. Employment search and job placement assistance to individuals recruited into the program and eligibility for assistance is based on length of time the individual has resided in the United States (less than five years to be eligible). KSI is funded by the Office of Refugee Services (ORS). TAG (Targeted Assistance Discretionary for Employment Enhancement) TAG is almost the same as the KSI program, and serves refugees or asylees only. The only difference is that TAG services are provided to individuals who are recruited into the program regardless of time eligibilities. Job upgrading, services for employment related issues, and short-term skills training are available. TAG is funded by the Office of Refugee Services. Unanticipate New Arrival Hmong refugees Program (Case Management and Employment) This program is designed to meet the immediate social services needs of the unanticiapte new arrival Hmong refugees from Wat Thakabork, Thailand. Services including: Housing assistance, W-2, health screening, social security card, ESL classes, transportation, translation, interpretation, food pantry, donation, workshop, and employment. Freeman Foundation Grant With funding from the Freeman Foundation, this program assists Asian refugees/immigrants, both unemployed and underemployed people to improve their employment, by helping them access: Customized English as a Second Language (ESL), job readiness training, and job related technical training classes through the Madison Area Literacy Council, Omega School, Forward Services, and Madison Area Technical College (MATC). UASW also offers basic computer literacy classes and computer tutoring as needed for program participants.Community Assistance Program This program is designed to help our clientels with transporatation, translation, Immigration information and application, referral, advocacy, community outreach, and emergency services need. |
