Programs
After School Program
A daily drop in program for children in 1st-5th grades. The program provides daily computer lab access, homework assistance, educational support, free choice time, arts and crafts activities, and a meal program. The After School program meets daily 2:30-5:30 PM.
Community Technology Center
The Vera Court Neighborhood Center Computer Lab offers daily open lab and access for neighborhood residents. Available for use are PC's, laser and color printer, disc burners, scanner, and a digital camera. Vera Court Neighborhood Center also provides instructor led courses in English and Spanish for children, adults, and seniors on topics including absolute beginner, Microsoft Office, and Internet navigation.
Girl Neighborhood Power
This program for girls ages 9-14 focuses on developing positive self-images, cultural pride, and making positive choices. Current programming includes academic assistance, a touring step team, computer classes, Meals on Wheels delivery routes, arts and crafts, and many more fun activities. The program meets during after school hours, evenings and occasional weekends.
Kid's Cafe Meal Program
The center serves three wonderful meals a week for our youth program participants and their families. Our Chef, Mac, prepares the meals that include; fried chicken, mashed potatoes, greens, tacos, pasta, meatloaf, and much more! Anyone is invited to help out or eat a meal. Meal times are Monday 5:00, Wednesday 5:00, and Friday 4:45.
Latino Family Resource Center
The Latino Family Resource Center provides northside Spanish speaking residents with support that will help integrate participants into their community. Services include translations, employment services, housing assistance, and advocacy. The Latino Family Resource Center also includes a Women's Support Group that shares ideas in a variety of topics including employment, nutrition, and exercise.
Life As A Boy
Designed for boys in 3rd-5th grades, Life As A Boy provides participants with the opportunity to meet positive male role models. Discussions take place with the adult role models on topics including behavior, family expectations, and the importance of having dreams. Life As A Boy meets Thursday afternoons and Saturdays.
Rise
This intensive academic program is designed to enhance middle school students' knowledge ande skills in the core academic subjects of English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. The program focuses on homework completion and positive attachment to school. Students, family and school work together to reach this goal. Rise meets Monday-Friday from 3:00-5:30 PM.
Teen Night
Teen Night provides middle and high school participants the opportunity to receive homework assistance and supervised recreation. Teen Night meets Wednesday and Thursday evenings during the school year.
Youth Advisory Board
The Vera Court Youth Advisory Board is a new program in 2007 that engages youth as active problem solvers, involved decision makers, and change agents in the community. The group has their own budget and organizes projects for the betterment of the community.
Youth Leadership Program
This program for middle school age participants develops and fosters leadership skills, promotes the ability to make positive choices, assists in career planning, and prepares participants for college through in-depth discussions and rewarding field trips. The Leadership Program meets Tuesday and Friday evenings.
