Madison WestSide RFC Starts Strong: 2 - 0

Madison WestSide RFC 31 Middelton RFC 20

This was our first league of the year! It was a very physical game and was a see-saw game back and fourth. We jumped on the board first with a Try and then Middleton stormed right back and scored. The game started to get physical, and both teams were battling back and forth. We started to notice if we get the ball wide we could do some damage with the speed and size we had in the back field.

The 2nd half was more of the same, and each team traded try's and with 5 minutes left in the game Middleton fought to take the lead at 20 -19. Madison WestSide really needed to reach down and see what kind of team we had. Jason Williams then took a ball down the sidelines (about 70 meter's I think) and Joe Vasquez added the conversion to make the score MWS 26 Middleton 20. Then our hooker, Tony got loose after some great ball movement and scored from about 20 meters out. That made the score MWS 31 and Middleton 20.

Middelton continued to fight, but time ran out on what was a great game to watch. Well done boy's, up next Elkhorn.

Madison WestSide RFC 24 Elkhorn RFC 17

The Elkhorn RFC team rolled into town, much improved over last year and were ready to play from the whistle. This was a repeat of the Middleton game, VERY PHYSICAL. Madison WestSide RFC jumped out to the early lead as Kevin Greer scored from about 5 meters out with our first Try. I think Elkhorn was quite surprised. But our lead was short lived as Elkhorn answered right back and scored, the game was 5 - 5.

Westside started to pound the ball with our big guys, James Bester, Carl Corbett, John Strosin and Mason Anderson, but we know the secret weapon was our "Speed". We got the ball out and Jason Williams sprinted about 80 meters to score his 3rd try of the year! Joe Vasquez tacked on the after points to make the score 12 - 5 Westside. Elkhorn not to be denied, scored a quick try just before half and added the conversion!

Half Time Westside 12 - Elkhorn 12

Westside realized they had to jump out the 2nd half and started to pound again and then the ball got wide and Julius hit Jason on a dead run, he forced two players to miss and dragged one into the try zone and scored his 4th try on 2 games. (Speed Kills). This was a corner try and Joe almost hit the conversion.

Westside 17 Elkhorn 12.

Westside was starting to get a little tired, and Elkhorn was not and they took advantage of our several offsides calls and put in a nifty try as their #12 ran through several of our players. Game was all notted up at 17 - 17 (They missed the conversion).

Westside realized no more mistakes would cut it, we got a 2nd wind, pounded the ball and advanced down the field. We got a penalty and gave the ball to the hard running Antwon Braxton who took several players with him to score under the post and Joe converted.

Westside 24 Elkhorn 17, there was 4 minutes left in the game and Elkhorn kept attacking, but I think we were all relieved when the final whistle blew.

2 - 0 tied for 1st and next up Madison East
