Wisconsin RCRC Receives Grant
Wisconsin RCRC Travels to Wausau
9/01/2008
Cathy Thompson |
On the Road to Wausau Sunday, September 28, Wisconsin RCRC will be in Wausau at First Unitarian Society. Cathy Thompson will present a general overview of RCRC and Wisconsin RCRC and plans to review and suggest action on the Responsible Education About Life (REAL) Act campaign. Besides signing petitions, sending emails and letters, a district meeting with Congressman David Obey's staff has been scheduled at his home office in Wausau for the following day.
Another meeting with local activists concerning a local crisis pregnancy center(CPC), Hope Pregnancy Resource Center, has also been scheduled. We are hoping local activists will seek out ways to warn young women about the biased agenda of CPC's. The fact they exist only to influence other's right of conscience through whatever means necessary is the antithesis of counseling.
Wisconsin RCRC was encouraged to apply for a grant from RCRC's Public Policy Department to help defray expenses for the trek to Wausau. RCRC's Public Policy Department's REAL Act campaign is looking for ways to encourage congressional representatives to co-sponsor the REAL Act to help ensure its passage. The major component of the REAL Act is to see that comprehensive sexuality education is available to our youth through the public school system. One of the others provisions of the REAL Act would see an end to the funding of abstinence-only programming in the schools. CPC's have been receiving federal funds to provide abstinence-only programming during most of the Bush administration. Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin remains the only one of the Wisconsin Congressional Delegation to have co-sponsored the REAL Act to date. If she is not your congressional representative, you can go to the RCRC Action Center now to find out who your congressperson is; send them an email; and find out how they have been voting. The RCRC ACtion Center is at www.wizcap/rcrc/home. Neither US Senator Kohl or US Senator Feingold have co-sponsored the REAL Act - probably because not enough of us has asked them to . . .ask them today!
