Zonta International was the only organization that Amelia Earhart belonged to not specifically connected to her love of flying. Following Amelia's disappearance at sea in 1937 while attempting her around-the-world flight, Zonta International created the Amelia Earhart Fund. Zonta International awards $6,000 scholarships annually to women in advanced study of aero- and space-related professions. Five million dollars has been awarded through this Fund since its inception. The Zonta Club of Madison is a member of the Madison Area Service Clubs Council. The joint members of the Council sponsor two events annually - the Service Clubs Olympics in July and a Fall luncheon in November.
